Day 1
Edinburgh to Pitlochry
Falkland Palace and gardens, St Andrews Castle and Cathedral with time in town, Glamis Castle. Overnight Pitlochry. Sample hotels: Fonab Castle Hotel or Pine Trees Hotel.
Day 2
Pitlochry to Dufftown
Braemar Castle, Balmoral Castle, Ballater. Overnight near Dufftown. Sample hotel: The Dowans.
Day 3
Dufftown to Fort Augustus
Elgin Cathedral, Cawdor Castle and gardens, Urquhart Castle, Inverness. Overnight near Fort Augustus. Sample hotels: Glengarry Castle Hotel or The Lovat.
Day 4
Fort Augustus to Fort William
Eilean Donan Castle, Armadale Castle, ferry Armadale to Mallaig, Glenfinnan Viaduct. Overnight Fort William at Inverlochy Castle Hotel, or return to the Fort Augustus area.
Day 5
Fort William to Edinburgh or Glasgow
Glencoe, Doune Castle, Stirling Castle, National Wallace Monument. Drop-off Edinburgh or Glasgow.
